Relation between activator ratio, hydration products and mechanical properties of alkali-activated slag

The use of cement substitute, such as alkali-activated slag, is great interest in the field earth-based construction materials to preserve their environmental benefit. Nonetheless, cationic activity clayey particles induces new issues by affecting alkaline conditions which slag activated. This work aims present how modify nature and amount hydrates formed, kinetics for reaction resulting mechanical properties. A minimum 5 wt% activator with respect was needed trigger consolidation samples within first 24 h, while an content 15% led excess sodium, especially remarkable at early age. Besides, hydration were followed situ during 3 days infrared spectroscopy. formation portlandite hydrotalcite-like only observable from 10% presence hydrotalcite correlated increase Finally, these results are formulation predicting hydrated phases formed activation depending on conditions.
